Farovi Shipping Corporation is a family-owned and operated company established in May 1961 in Miami, Florida, by its late founder, Mr. F. A. Rovirosa. Before founding Farovi, Mr. Rovirosa was the principal owner of F. A. Rovirosa, S.A. was established in Havana, Cuba, in 1937. This firm became the largest and most prestigious general agent, stevedoring contractor, and terminal operator on the island, representing many prominent ocean carriers serving Cuba from the United States, Europe, and the Far East.
In the early 1960s, Miami was primarily known for its sunny beaches, attracting visitors from across the Americas and Europe. However, Farovi’s management recognized the strategic importance of the Port of Miami and Port Everglades, identifying the potential for trade between the Americas and cargo transshipment from Europe and the Far East. Farovi played a crucial role in developing these ports, highlighting the significant opportunities available to major international ocean carriers.
As a result of these efforts, in late 1961, Farovi successfully became the agent for the first regular liner services between Miami and both the East and West Coasts of South America, effectively opening the Miami gateway to South American countries. Since those early years, Farovi has explored additional markets and established further services, resulting in growth that has exceeded all projections. Today, major shipping companies widely recognize Port Miami and Port Everglades as the primary gateway to Latin America from the United States, and Farovi takes pride in having played a key role in this development.
